When descending a steep, off-road slope, the C40 Recharge’s standard Hill Descent Control allow you to creep down safely. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

Both the C40 Recharge and the Polestar 2 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the C40 Recharge its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2022, a rating granted to only 131 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Polestar 2 has not been tested, yet.

Volvo pays for scheduled maintenance on the C40 Recharge for 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Polestar pays for maintenance for the 2 (4/40,000 vs. 3/30,000).

There are almost 11 times as many Volvo dealers as there are Polestar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the C40 Recharge’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Volvo vehicles are better in initial quality than Polestar vehicles. With 63 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Volvo higher than Polestar.

On the EPA test cycle the C40 Recharge gets better mileage than the Polestar 2 Performance Pack (106 city/91 hwy vs. 100 city/90 hwy MPGe).

The C40 Recharge can travel longer on a full charge than the Polestar 2 Performance Pack (257 miles vs. 247 miles).

For greater off-road capability the C40 Recharge has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Polestar 2 Performance Package (6.7 vs. 5.7 inches), allowing the C40 Recharge to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The C40 Recharge’s minimum ground clearance is .8 inch higher than on the Polestar 2 (6.7 vs. 5.9 inches).

The C40 Recharge is 6.5 inches shorter than the Polestar 2, making the C40 Recharge easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The C40 Recharge has 1 inch more front hip room, 2.1 inches more front shoulder room, 2.2 inches more rear legroom, 1.3 inches more rear hip room and 3.7 inches more rear shoulder room than the Polestar 2.

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the C40 Recharge’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Polestar 2, the C40 Recharge has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the C40 Recharge to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. Heated windshield washer nozzles cost extra on the Polestar 2.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the C40 Recharge has a standard rear wiper. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the C40 Recharge second among small premium suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Polestar 2 isn’t in the top three.
