Compare the2025 Volvo EC40VS 2024 Polestar 2

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the EC40 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the EC40’s standard Hill Descent Control allow you to creep down safely. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

Both the EC40 and the Polestar 2 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

There are over 9 times as many Volvo dealers as there are Polestar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the EC40’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Volvo vehicles are better in initial quality than Polestar vehicles. With 74 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Volvo higher than Polestar.

The EC40 can travel longer on a full charge than the Polestar 2 on a full charge:

For greater off-road capability the EC40 has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Polestar 2 Performance Package (6.7 vs. 5.7 inches), allowing the EC40 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The EC40’s minimum ground clearance is .8 inch higher than on the Polestar 2 (6.7 vs. 5.9 inches).

The EC40 is 6.5 inches shorter than the Polestar 2, making the EC40 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The EC40 has 1 inch more front hip room, 2.1 inches more front shoulder room, 2.2 inches more rear legroom, 1.3 inches more rear hip room and 3.7 inches more rear shoulder room than the Polestar 2.

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the EC40’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Polestar 2, the EC40 has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the EC40 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. Heated windshield washer nozzles cost extra on the Polestar 2.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the EC40 has a standard rear wiper. The Polestar 2 doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Insurance will cost less for the EC40 owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the EC40 will cost $495 to $6035 less than the Polestar 2 over a five-year period.

The EC40 will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. The IntelliChoice estimates that the EC40 will retain 43.8% to 44.65% of its original price after five years, while the Polestar 2 only retains 30.2% to 35.13%.
