The V60 Cross Country has a standard Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS), which use a specially designed seat to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the WHIPS allows the backrest to travel backwards to cushion the occupants and the headrests move forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. At the same time the pretensioning seatbelts fire, removing slack from the belts. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The Volvo V60 Cross Country comes with a standard 360° Camera and it also offers an optional rear camera washer to make backing always safe, regardless of road dirt or grime, while the Genesis GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer a camera washer, requiring manual cleaning.

Compared to metal, the V60 Cross Country’s plastic fuel tank can withstand harder, more intrusive impacts without leaking; this decreases the possibility of fire. The Genesis GV80 Coupe has a metal gas tank.

Both the V60 Cross Country and the GV80 Coupe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Volvo V60 Cross Country is safer than the Genesis GV80 Coupe:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Volvo V60 Cross Country is safer than the Genesis GV80 Coupe:

Instrumented handling tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and analysis of its dimensions indicate that the V60 Cross Country, with its five-star roll-over rating, is 7% less likely to roll over than the GV80 Coupe, which received a four-star rating.

Warranty

The V60 Cross Country’s corrosion warranty is 5 years longer than the GV80 Coupe’s (12 vs. 7 years).

There are over 29 percent more Volvo dealers than there are Genesis dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the V60 Cross Country’s warranty.

Reliability

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the V60 Cross Country has a 210-amp alternator. The GV80 Coupe’s standard 180-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the V60 Cross Country gets better mileage than the GV80 Coupe:

Regenerative brakes improve the V60 Cross Country’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

Tires and Wheels

The V60 Cross Country has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the GV80 Coupe; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

The V60 Cross Country Ultra handles at .85 G’s, while the GV80 3.5 e-Supercharger pulls only .81 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the V60 Cross Country’s turning circle is 2.2 feet tighter than the GV80 Coupe’s (37.1 feet vs. 39.3 feet).

Chassis

The Volvo V60 Cross Country may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1200 to 1300 pounds less than the Genesis GV80 Coupe.

The V60 Cross Country is 7 inches shorter than the GV80 Coupe, making the V60 Cross Country easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The V60 Cross Country is 8.1 inches shorter in height than the GV80 Coupe, making the V60 Cross Country much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

Passenger Space

The V60 Cross Country has .7 inches more front legroom and .5 inches more rear headroom than the GV80 Coupe.

Cargo Capacity

A low lift-over trunk design makes loading and unloading the V60 Cross Country easier. The V60 Cross Country’s trunk lift-over height is 25.4 inches, while the GV80 Coupe’s liftover is 31.6 inches.

Towing

Standard Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) on the V60 Cross Country uses the Dynamic Stability and Traction Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the GV80 Coupe, the V60 Cross Country Ultra has a passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

If the windows are left open on the V60 Cross Country the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the GV80 Coupe can’t use the remote to operate the windows.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the V60 Cross Country to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the V60 Cross Country has a standard rear wiper. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts detailed tests on headlights for their range both straight ahead and in curves and to be certain they don’t exceed acceptable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers. The V60 Cross Country’s headlights were rated “Good” by the IIHS, while the GV80 Coupe’s headlights are rated “Acceptable.”

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The V60 Cross Country offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the V60 Cross Country has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The GV80 Coupe doesn’t offer cornering lights. The V60 Cross Country also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.
